The annual Shelby County Pioneer Fair will be held at the Shelby County Fairgrounds on September 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 17, from noon to 4 p.m.
Attendees can participate in many hands-on pioneer-related activities, such as making scarecrows with straw and clothing, churning cream into butter, hand-dipping candles, washing clothes with a basin and ringer, and making apple cider.
The fair will also feature demonstrations of tasks from the 1800s; these include the operation of a printing press, woodworking, rug braiding and hooking, knitting, loom weaving and yarn spinning, and much more.
Guests will have the opportunity to meet reenactors in the roles of people living in that time period, including school marms, town criers, an organ player, villagers, and a pioneer explorer.
A demonstration and historical presentation of the Indiana Territorial Mounted Rangers, a cake walk, a pioneer general store, a raffle, and a silent auction will also take place during the two-day event. Food is available for purchase, with some items including fudge, kettle corn, brats, and a salad bar.
